Find out the full Story

Use these types of questions to shine a light on the story.  Get the story - Beginning, Middle, and End.  It is very important to get the entire story.  

  • Introduction and Setting the Scene

  • How old do you feel?
    (Helps identify the time or life stage the client is connecting to.)

  • Where are you?
    (Establishes the setting and environment of their memory or experience.)

  • What are you doing?
    (Explores the client’s role or action in this moment.)

  • What sounds, smells, or tastes are there?
    (Engages the senses to deepen the experience and connection.)

  • What are your first impressions of this place?
    (Gathers initial thoughts and reactions.)

  • What does this place feel like?
    (Explores the emotional tone or atmosphere of the scene.)

  • Immersing in the Experience

  • Are you with others? If so, who?
    (Identifies key people or presences in the scene.)

  • What are you saying?  What are they saying?

  • What are you doing?   What are they doing?

  • What are you experiencing?
    (Encourages detailed narration of events, emotions, or sensations.)

  • What are you feeling?
    (Focuses on emotional awareness in the moment.)

  • What emotion stands out the most?
    (Pinpoints the dominant emotional theme.)

  • Where in your body do you feel that emotion?
    (Encourages somatic awareness to deepen insight.)

  • How does it feel in your body?
    (Explores physical sensations tied to the emotion.)

  • Unfolding the Narrative

  • Is this the beginning of this story?
    (Clarifies the starting point and context of the narrative.)

  • What happens next?
    (Moves the story forward to uncover subsequent details.)

  • Is there a story unfolding? What is it?
    (Identifies the broader context or narrative emerging from the experience.)

  • What can this story tell you about yourself or your current life?
    (Promotes reflection on personal connections and insights.)

  • Deepening and Resolution

  • Play it forward. What happens as the scene progresses? (middle story)
    (Explores the natural continuation and deeper layers of the experience.)

  • Play it forward to the natural end of the story. What happens as the scene progresses to the end? What is happening?
    (Brings the client to a resolution, allowing the story to conclude.)

  • Looking at the Beginning, Middle, and End, what is the story here?
    (Encourages the client to summarize and understand the entire experience.)

  • Integration and Meaning

  • What message or insight does this story offer you?
    (Facilitates understanding of the lesson or significance of the story.)

  • Is there anything else you feel or notice as you reflect on this experience?
    (Allows space for any final thoughts or realizations to surface.)
